Just Another day of skill and fun at TD studios – By Anandhapadmanabhan

Giggles, thunderous laughs, tables filled with food and variety of beverages… Three laptops lying in different corners occupied by 2 people each and the whole ambience filled with excitement tells you about just another day of work by artists at Techdivine Studios.

As the VP Resource Management Mrs.Neela Shinde enters in with her gorgeous pet cat on one hand and a cell phone on the other, the currently working 6 artists wave a big smile of “hi” to her…. as she gets settled with one of the teams.

Ms.Shafaque Patel and Mr.Yasir, the Planning & Budgeting heads at TD studios wrap up with their schedule for the day and load up 3d compositing software on their screen. Just then, we hear, “Ho gaya” as in sounding like ‘Eureka’ by the 3d Modeling head Mr.Nadeem, who catches everyone’s attention and all rush in to see the fabulous looking 3d camera designed by him.

That’s right everyone at TD studios, right from the VP to the Production in charge is a hardcore passionate artist from heart.

As they constantly put in efforts to render there creative skills out in a still format for ‘check & quality control’ the storyboard head Mr.Vaibhav too walks in to give his views on the current frame.

About 4 hours later they split up their respective works which has been mostly done except for final finishing touches. The stills and raw format of the files are mailed across to few other junior artists and designers who will finish it online by the end of the day and send the final output for QC check to the respective heads through email.

A total of 18 artists thus work into a particular project at a given point of time with services ranging from 3D architectural walkthrough, Print media services and web based services, compositing and visual effects with titling, clay animation, creative writing, and digital art at Techdivine studios.

TD studios is a newly established quickly growing Online designing studio wherein majority of the work is done Off-site and online by highly skilled artists, with skills on a plethora of levels and varied medium, who meet up twice a week for a review and check on the work done.

The best part about them is that they all behave like art students thus always ready to learn and grow from each other and at the same time produce photorealistic CG works with high level of professionalism.

On Jan 2008, TD studios celebrated its first anniversary which started like a dream with just 1 artist and has grown more through work and as a brand than just numbers and artists as the Concept and Idea head who is also TD’s brand and product consultant Mr.Ananthanarayan V, picks up the best and adds in his multiple skills of both design and management and the fabulous projects and varied technical growth goes on shooting up each and every day with fun and learning.

I Anandhapadmanabhan, providing the financial advice here, might just be an observer to the whole new platform today, but someday would like to see this group of talented artists, manager and skilled dreamers at the top of their game.

My best wishes to all of you and hearty congratulations for completing a successful and fun filled year at TD studios.

  A Padmanabhan

Judging the mood at IIT…

Judging the mood at IIT: MOODINDIGO 2007

It was on 26/12/2007 as the clock hit 10:30 am, my basic feature phone Nokia hit an awesome tune for me. The voice at the other end greeted, “Good morning Sir. I am Akarsh here. If you are ready I would then come up and we can leave. The vehicle is waiting downstairs.”

As the door bell rang, in walked a young IITian, full of life and zest and you could feel the excitement he had about Mood Indigo 2007. Akarsh Rai was one of the members of the Team MoodIndigo at IIT Powai and needless to say was among the brilliant fortunate to be an IITian. It took us almost an hour to reach to the holy shrine of intellect, energy, genius and all through the journey, he spoke about the event, the people and teams involved and then gave me my Judge’s sheet.

It all began about two weeks back as I got an invite as a honorary judge to attend one of Asia’s biggest cultural and technical fests at IIT Powai. Mood indigo 2007 which boasts of over 60,000 students and around 450 colleges participating from all over, was ready to kick off on Dec, 26th 2007. I was in Bangalore at that time when I got the message and I rescheduled my appointments and tasks to keep myself available for the same here in Mumbai for Mood I, for IIT. The energy and genius that I got to see technically and creatively was worth my time I guess, at the end.

As I entered the Main gate at IIT Powai and the vehicle zoomed past, scores of students were roaming around the massively huge IIT campus going from one massive event to another. We touched the IRCC foyer where I was invited to judge the Fine Arts Category – Art in Motion – Car design competition of MoodI 2007.

I looked around and there were teams from all over India participating in the design competition pouring their hearts and soul into the passionate modeling process to create something amazingly original, creative and technically genius. So it was an attempt to blend in technicality and aesthetics into one. I can 100% assure in the 3 hours that those students were given, they had done an unbelievably amazing job at the end. Few of the designs which still stands distinct in my mind are the models of Split car, Caterpillar vehicle concept, Future car designed as a sphere seated on 3 handles to dodge Mumbai roads with round wheels with grey  and blue shades, the car running on solar power with a compact disc on top acting as the solar generator, automobile with MoodI logo as its concept running on a band like the tankers run in armies, club on wheels, scorpion vehicle for terrains, The Biz car for corporate, the time travelling speedster, the rhino machine, the concept car with solar power and ample inside space and single sided door, the flying cab, another machine combining traditional and modern car design in one style, etc… All I could feel is the intense passion and brilliance with which each team had done the splendid job.

ART IN MOTION - MOODINDIGO 2007 - IIT Powai

As the next event was getting set, one of the organizer, Prathamesh, apologized for hurrying up of this event but I guess they had to…. And as I hardly got 10 minutes to look into more than 30 teams and give my judgment on the same, I felt I could use a little bit more time with the teams and the models created so beautifully. But then I had to hurry up with the available time at my disposal and as the amazingly huge groups of brilliant geniuses stood there, I declared three of the teams at the top three spots. It was a very difficult decision as majority fell in the best category of innovations and designs as I could feel. But there were few others too who could have chopped in the big Prize probably if they had been given just few extra minutes to get all set and ready. But I guess, that’s all what’s the competition is all about.  Timing, presentation, concept, your ability to convince on your design and innovation. All things put together takes you to the top spot. But at the end of the day, to me….. honestly, from the bottom of my heart, they were all winners.

ART IN MOTION - MOODINDIGO 2007 - IIT Powai Mumbai

AT the end I was very sure that at least 90% of those participating would make it as amazingly creative and genius, brilliant designers in the coming years. They had the passion, the guts and the talent for it.

The organizers took me around for a complete tour and I am especially thankful to Akarsh for showing me around the marvel and genius of IIT and of IIT Powai campus right from every other event and concerts arena to the student room, convocation hall, the new IIT building, the hostel area and IIT library. It was a good feel and a nice welcome to each and everyone out there that day by MoodIndigo2007.

Mood Indigo has gained a name and reputation over the last so many years as being highly professional, diverse and is being host at one of the most prestigious shrines of all time, IIT Powai, Mumbai.

I would have to say as I conclude, Mood Indigo 2007 has kicked off grand and the credit goes from the people who have made it happen that is the students from all over India who come and participate in it and definitely the people who have created and run the show there, the organizers, the coordinators, the core team, etc at Mood Indigo 2007.

The details of the program are available “ http://moodi.org

iitMood Indigo 2007 IIT

I wish the whole team, the core team and everyone ( Prathamesh, Akarsh, all other organizers, coordinators)  involved with the event and also the ones who have created the graffiti wall which looks mesmerizing at IIT Powai campus and made this event literally larger than life ALL THE VERY BEST, god bless and be well.

Mood Indigo 2007 ROCKS!!!

Even this will “PASS!” – no pun intended!

first class pass train ticket

There was a total blackout. I could hear blaring sounds in my head. Voices, objects and people in scores, thumping and banging around with drums of steel making clanking noises so loud that it seemed my eardrums were to come apart.

Soon enough there was absolute silence as I dwelled into the beautiful home of ‘nidra’ meaning sleep, without a reason and without my own realization of it.

It was only after about another 10 minutes or so, that I regained consciousness. My severe attack of migraine had just passed me with a small objectionable visit that was impactful, but was thankfully not prolonged.

I left my workplace and was heading towards home as one of my workplace employee got me a rickshaw to get back home safely.

The drive was going to be lengthy so I rested in the luxurious and cramped vehicle.

Luxurious because anything and anyplace that let me just slide in now felt so comfortable and cramped as the ‘jhankar beats’ in the rick was in full swing all of a sudden that was clobbering my head.

I asked him to ‘Just shut it’, as he looked back with a not so contented face, he sure did.  I was in no mood to explain why to him but damn, I just should have.

As the alacrity of that awesome machine and the not so positive feelings of the driver got together, the vehicle kept swirling across many bewildering lanes and pathways, I felt as if I was being taken for a ‘ride’ and I double checked to look at the roads.

He was heading in the right direction. I guess it was just my head that was still raging with the earlier impact then.

Soon enough the resentment and frustration of not allowing him to play the wild and horrible songs in his vehicle caught up with him and he was showing no signs of slowing down.

Bang….. Bam….. thrash!!!

Our awesome flying saucer was hit by a ‘lorry’ and the little vehicle rolled sideways.

Strangely and by god’s grace nothing happened to me as I came out of the vehicle with not even a scratch, except for my head that was now screaming with the rising agony called migraine.

The rickshaw-valla was hit roughly and I with few others took him out of the vehicle.

He was still able to stand as he looked at himself and then at me as if I was some alien.

I took him to the nearby traffic policeman who escorted him to the doctor as I left for the close to railway station.

I was in Sion station soon enough.

Now the effect of the collision and my now very active and boisterous headache was taking its toll on me. I was getting extremely exhausted and could not even descend the steps to reach to the platform. But it was me, so I eventually did.

I got in the first class compartment and just lied down inside. It was noon and it was quite empty.

I was woken up in a not so subtle fashion by someone who by looking at my face which was too weary by now probably thought I was drunk. It was the TC.

He asked me for my pass and as I reached my hand towards my pocket, I realized I had unknowingly donated my wallet apparently in the road accident. I explained to the TC but in vain as he asked me to get down and go to the place where the ticketless travelling classes of people are given due and generous attention by more than one TC.

All my explanation was futile but I told him of what had happened from the start of the day, he then looked a little bit more convinced. I was not in a position to talk as I sat down on the seat and it was just then that one of the sessions from my management class just hit me hard.

Brand sells.

I searched for my bag and showed him my student id that I had with me of one of the most elite institutions in India and the name just hit him hard. I guess, it is true, Brand does sell.

He mellowed down and asked me where I work and got few other details. He also asked me if I had any money to buy a ticket. I told him, my wallet was gone and had none.

He asked me to get down with him in the next station and believe it or not, he bought me a ticket for second class for my way back home and got me in the train compartment safe and sound.

That was a very positive experience I had that day.

Sure I have heard of gruesome stories about them, but that day, needless to say, I was impressed to see humanity still to be so much in existence. They too have too many cases of not so genuine reasons many a times I guess. Anyway, I was also glad that I was awake when the lecture was taught in the class saying, Brand sells!

As I continued my routine journey in the train from the next day, I met with the same TC by the end of that week again. It was the same TC in the compartment of the first class and I reminded him of the incident.

I gave him my fine that was due from the other day, took the receipt and for a change happily got out off the train.

It was never about the money I guess. It annoys people normally because of the way they treat you many a times.

But I guess, You give something good and you get something good in return.

I don’t know whether every person could deal things this way always like that TC did, the world would be so much a better place then and if they don’t, as the old saying goes….. Even this shall PASS! No pun intended.
